Sarlat.

On a rainy day, last September, we sheltered in the medieval city of Sarlat in the Dordogne. After days of high temperatures, a thunderstorm had cleared the air and left the day ahead to vertical stair rods of rain. We enjoyed the feeling of moisture on our skins; the cool air after days of heat. It resonated well with the ancient walls of the city. Narrow streets lined with high buildings.

We spent most of the day dashing in and out of buildings. The beautiful cathedral, the lanterns des morts, shaped like a rocket.

Finally the wonderful 13th century manoir du Gisson. This last building started with a museum of artefacts on the ground floor. These were a selection of objects collected over many years from around the world. A beautiful stone spiral staircase then led to the domestic quarters.
The building was owned by the Gisson family, consulates and solicitors to the royal family in France.  A mix of very intimate rooms showed a variety of time periods.

The amazing attic full of discarded items at the top of the manoir.
It was a delightful town, made even more intriguing by the rain. Do you find that about places? They leave special memories because of the weather of the day. In the boot of our car we now have a souvenir of this town. A very French see through umbrella. It served us well on the day. Happy memories. The weather today is very reminiscent!
